Texas including my son. My daughter born in N.C but was raised here.
We are proud to be Texans
Facts you may not know of Texas and
San Antonio:
*Texas is a wide open state. It is both longer and wider than any
other sate except Alaska. It covers more territory than the toal area of
five Midwestern States, Ohio, Inidana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan
combined!
*While you may think of Texas as the oil capital of the country, the
other major products of Texas are actually soap, flour, clothing,
cottonseed oil.
*People believe San Antonio to be hot and arid, the average annual
temperature is a balmy 68.8 degrees Fahrenheit and lush greenery is seen
throughout the year.
*Texas is known as the lonestar state because back in 1836, Texas
became a sovereign nation officially recognized by the United States and
several European countries. This means Texas was its own nation for a few
months before becoming part of the United States. The term "Lonestar"
comes from the symbolic single star on the Texas flag, which was
officially adopted by the Republic of Texas in 1839 ---and still flys
today.
*The word "Texas" comes from a Caddo Indian word meaning "friends or
"allies" The Spanish explorers pronounced the word "Tejas" and
affectionatly gave this name to the area.
*Does Texas see snow? Actually it does. While the gulf coast area
has a marine climate, and the western part of the state near El Paso has
a desert climate, South Texas actually see snow every few years and in the
northen plains area. where snowfall averages less than 15 annually.
*Texas has a large cattle ranch called The King Ranch near Corpus
Christi it is larger then the state of Rhode Island and includes 50,000
head of cattle.
*San Antonio has one of the largest research center for Cancer research, the
best burn center and trauma units in the world.
*For security we have many military bases in Texas and San Antonio we
have as well the Texas National guard the Texas National Air Guard as well
as the Famous Texas Rangers.
* Just four hours away from San Antonio is the famous Nasa Space
center where they have yearly homeschool days open to all Homeschoolers.
