Class Ideas

Welcome Friends and family to my
Co-op &
Large Class ideas
I have been taking my daughter to Co-op for about
three years now and in two years of the years I have been
teaching a few classes. I have been teaching classes that will go
with my younger son. I felt it a pity that all the ideas I had would
be forgotten in time after all my hard research so I decided to dedicate
this page as the years go on to adding ideas for classes.
Sorry if your disapointed that there
is not a lot here to look over. There will be in time. If you really want
to see a Co-op in action and get some ideas go to the ENAACT website in
Texas. They have even outgrown
their building site and went to another bigger site. They even went to
a whole new level with "University model school"
Some ideas for classes you can start at your Co-op would
be listed below. Even if your not part of a Co-op but your part of a
homeschool group why dont you offer a class either have it at a local
church for an hour or two or your home if you have the room. This would be
much appreicated by other moms plus your children would love getting
together with other kids for the day.

way to get your kids to study the bible more.
PE health-Great way to get some
exercise in and learn health for
your body at the same time. Teach basic-Basketball/Volleyball/Baseball
Science classes-Do science experiments projects with each
other for these classes.
History-Take a era and do a unit study mixed with not only
learning but maybe do some crafts of that time, some foods, ect
Arts & Crafts-Each cheaper to buy in bulk for a
project with a whole lot then only a few. This is a fun and very popular
class
Sign Language or any other Foreign language course-If you
have a talented mom with another language ask her to teach the kids at
least the basics.
Basic Music -here is another one for talented moms to
teach the basics for music
Scrapbooking-Here is a fun class, there are so many ways
to do scrapbooking now a days, this is a great way to show your creative
talents.
Chess club-Get those creative minds working.
Board games-Get those board games out of the closet its
time to play with a whole bunch of kids.
Computer classes- Have some talented moms or dads that can
teach the basics of Microsoft word or typing class, its not to hard to
find someone that will donate a basic computer to use, just have to
ask.
Basic mechanics-Do you have a willing dad that can teach
the kids the basics of taking care of a car. This is a great class for
boys and girls wanting to learn these skills.
Woodworking basics-This is another great class for a
willing dad to teach the kids the safety & fun of wood working.
Drama-Do you have someone into the Arts? Have them conduct
a play to show at the end of the semester.
Bookclub-I have had this in the past where the kids will
read their favorite book for the week then write a report on it to tell
others about it. There can be some creative ways to show off your book
too. This class is great for reading, writing skills.
Unit Studies-If you are short teachers teaching a Unit
studie is fun too. Take a subject and go with it adding all kinds of
learning subjects to it. We have had in the past a "American girls class"
filled with prayer, arts & crafts, field trips, history, writing and
reading.
Photography/Journalism-Do a year book or scrapbooking
class for the whole coop for the year.
Older kids moms would appreicate help in
-Calculus/Chemistry/Algebra/Speech
Hire someone that will go down on
their prices if taught in a class-Piano/Voice lessons/Karate/Dance/Painting or Drawing/Pottery/Guitar/-Always have
a mom to help asst
them.
Here was an example of our schedule
for one day for one of our older coop-Floaters mean people that dont teach
or asst at that time to use them incase someone didnt make it that day or
if someone needs extra help. The ones that don't volunteer for a class or
to asst get picked first while the ones that do get picked last on the list.
In our group moms that volunteer to be Teachers get to
enroll their kids first in the class of their choice.
